OUR STORY
Rocio Bracamonte launched Chio in 2018 with a collection of throws, scarves and wraps made of premium Peruvian alpaca fiber. Rocio was born in Lima, Peru, where she earned a business degree. After a few years working in product marketing, she moved to the United States to pursue her MBA. She and her family now live in the Seattle area.
Rocio has always been fascinated by the rich cultural heritage and textile techniques of her native country and knew that she wanted to share them with the rest of the world. By working with alpaca fiber, The Chio Shop not only provides exceptional quality products to their customers, they also support girls’ education globally.
Rocio and Jayme Freeborn, The Chio Shop co-owner, met in 2013. They were neighbors and quickly recognized their mutual appreciation for high quality craftsmanship and design, travel, and social responsibility. Jayme has a background in designer retail marketing, and has worked for companies like Nordstrom and Mario’s. Upon Chio’s launch in 2018, Jayme found herself helping Rocio in a variety of capacities—from product design to special events. It didn’t take long for Jayme to recognize how truly unique these alpaca fiber products are. In 2022 (after the pandemic), Rocio asked Jayme to join the Chio team and re-launch the brand.
